The Archaelogical Museum is one of the most important museums in the world being the repository of the minoan civilization. The glorious history now lost in centuries past can still be seen in thousands of archaelogical finds including the Festos Disc, the golden
necklace found at Malia and the clay clancers from Kamilari.
The history museum of Heraklion chronides the evolution of the city through time. Among the exhibits, three  paintings by El Greco and several manuscripts by Nikos Kazantzakis are of particular interest.
